Reyhan Lál (b. 1993, Tehran) is a film and performance artist currently in residence at the Rijksakademie. Having initially studied Architecture, Lál started her practice in 2017 within Tehran's underground scene. While her early works occur in the public sphere, her current pieces are inclined to take shape in a theatrical setup.
Lál's works, centered on the enduring theme of the human condition, strategically attempt to interfere with established orders in an ironic and playful manner. Involving characters, stage layouts, and language, she employs a fusion of scripted and improvisational compositions to consistently reshape the conceptual landscape of the stage. Within her work, elements unveil specific statements only on the verge of undermining themselves. By asserting and reclaiming authority, she actively involves both the crew and the audience in the development process, offering an open-ended experience.
Lál has also organized several artistic programs, including three editions of the Tehran Art Book Fair from 2019 to 2021. In 2023, she initiated a film project based in the Netherlands titled 'Good Film, Bad Film'.
