Our city map ‘Rijksakademie on the Map’ is part of ‘Groeistad’, an educational programme about heritage for pupils aged 6 to 12.

Through the Groeistad project students can explore their own neighbourhood and city, on the basis of a digital map filled with information about monuments, architecture, archaeological finds, art in public spaces, museum treasures and stories from and about the neighbourhood. They can add their own information to the map and see what the city used to look like by superimposing historical maps over the current city.

In the context of the 150th anniversary of the Rijksakademie in 2020, the ‘Groeistad’ map has been expanded to include a wide selection of works from 'Rijksakademie on the map', that contains some 450 works in the public space by artists who were associated with the Rijksakademie from 1870 till now. In addition, a lesson has been developed to introduce school children to city sculptor Hildo Krop, by designing their own facade stone.

Groeistad is a collaborative project of Amsterdam Museum, Architectuur Centrum Amsterdam, Gemeente Amsterdam, Gemeente Amsterdam Stadsarchief and CBK Zuisoost. With support from Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst, Mocca, Cultuureducatie met Kwaliteit, Mondriaan Fonds, Rabobank, VSBfonds en ZABAWAS.
