Since welcoming our first residents, we have brought together hundreds of challenging and bright artists from all over the world, investing at the root of new art forms and movements. This has created an engaged worldwide community of artists that work together, support each other, and establish friendships.
The essence and vitality of the bond between the Rijksakademie and the artists is celebrated in different ways. It all began in 2010 with a major auction of works by alumni at Sotheby's. The proceeds were used to establish the Artist Endowment Fund, which still provides for the work budgets of current resident artists.
Ten years later, the tradition was revived with the sale of an artist editions box in honour of the 150th anniversary of the Rijksakademie. We hope that this is just the beginning of a long-term approach to sustaining and growing the principle of artist-to-artist support and creating accessible artworks for the many Friends of the Rijksakademie and beyond.
Apart from artworks, alumni can also contribute to the Artist Endowment Fund by making a one-time or recurring gift.

Would Mondriaan have become Mondriaan without his stay at the Rijksakademie? And what about Berlage, Breitner or Appel? For over 150 years, the Rijksakademie has played an essential role in the career development of artists who, to this day, enrich our lives and societies. Join us in supporting a new generation of artists and contribute to our future heritage.
Every contribution counts. You can either donate any amount that suits you, or join our Circle of Friends by opting for a more structural contribution. Another possibility is supporting an artist with a Fellowship or one of our special programmes or activities directly. We warmly welcome wills and bequests and also launched a special artists-for-artists initiative.
