Before coming to Rijksakademie, Takanori was living a retired life in the Japanese countryside. There, he made video art and drawings, and exhibited his new works every month with his friends in an empty room on a shopping street. With no formal art education, his original and creative expression is often inspired by everyday life and his own experiences, and his playful works critically confront us with the basic conditions of art making and human life. His current approach is to try a method of expression that is free from techniques, concepts, materials, and the like—to try to shake the framework of art to see what art is.
