Open Call Theodora Niemeijer Prize

The Niemeijer Fund and the Van Abbemuseum organise the fifth edition of the Theodora Niemeijer Prize, an incentive prize for emerging women visual artists.The prize was introduced in 2012 because works by women artists are still very much underrepresented in exhibitions and museum collections. 

Alumni Sarah van Sonsbeeck (RA 08/09) and Josefin Arnell (RA 15/16) were recepients of the Theodora Niemeijer Prize in respectively 2012 and 2018.

Sarah van Sonsbeeck: "Initially, I was hesitant to submit anything for the Theodora Niemeijer Prize, because I didn't want to be seen as a 'women' artist. The realisation that this was a self-imposed prejudice convinced me to participate. I encourage everyone to put such prejudices aside."

The submission period for the project proposals runs from 1 October 2020 to 1 January 2021.
