Artist statement

In her practice, Yun Choi questions the social climate, often deemed banal and mundane, that circulates between technology and tradition. She explores this complex realm that creates sensations of alienation, the grotesque, and the absurd. From contemporary by-products and public visual material, she captures, accumulates, and transforms images generated through time lags and repurposes them for her projects. Eliciting an intuitive sense of disorientation, she tries to dissolve the boundaries of corporeality. Her work is usually indescribable, oscillating between object and picture, sculpture and mass, video and screen, voice and sound, performance and struggle, installation and mess. At the moment, she is working on how to treat inorganic matter such as metal and ore as organisms. Her work has been shown at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, Art Sonje Center, Busan Biennale, Gwangju Biennale, Kukje Gallery, Doosan Gallery New York, Seoul Museum of Art, and more.
