Sonic Acts is organising the ‘Spatial Sound Course’ with artist, composer and educator Ji Youn Kang and invites applications for this two-month workshop that explores the interplay between sound and space.
The workshop is a collaboration with the Rijksakademie during the Sonic Acts Biennial.
The course consists of 11 workshop sessions between February and March 2026, culminating in a final performance with all participants at the end of March. Sessions will take place at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, with exact dates and times to be confirmed.
Through collective experimentation, listening, and hands-on work with spatial sound tools, you will create new sonic experiences that challenge the boundaries of composition and perception.

The ‘Spatial Sound Course’ is part of the Spatial Sound Platform – a Sonic Acts initiative that immerses audiences in innovative auditory experiences – and is the second iteration of a workshop originally developed for the 2024 Biennial. It is part of ‘New Perspectives for Action’, a project by Re-imagine Europe, co-funded by the European Union.
The Sonic Acts Biennial 2026, titled Melted for Love, takes place in Amsterdam from 5 February to 29 March. Spread over 80 events across 15 venues, the programme features cutting-edge performances, contemporary sound experiments, and multidisciplinary art by over 200 artists.
