Meiro Koizumi

Meiro Koizumi
Thursday 4 September, 17.30
Rijksakademie Schip
entrance free, RSVP here

Artist and Rijksakademie alum and advisor Meiro Koizumi will share insights into his practice and current exhibition, exploring urgent questions around art, technology, and the politics of memory.

Meiro Koizumi's video installations probe repressed histories, collective memory, and the psychological dimensions of nationalism, trauma, and war. During his visit to the Rijksakademie, the artist will discuss the making of two works currently on view in his first major solo exhibition in the Netherlands, ‘Theaters of Life’ at Museum De Pont. This includes ‘The Angels of Testimony’, a three-channel installation featuring a former Japanese soldier reflecting on his wartime actions during the Second Sino-Japanese War.

The talk will expand on the themes of the exhibition, drawing connections between war, art, and new technologies such as AI and VR. Koizumi’s practice prompts us to reflect on how these tools shape artistic expression and our understanding of humanity; its histories, vulnerabilities, and possible futures.

Dinner option: 18.30 – 19.30  | It is unfortunately no longer possible to join for dinner. The Cantina is fully booked.
