1,600 artists from 111 different countries applied for the 2026 residency programme. The jury consisted of Rijksakademie advisors, alumni and professionals from the contemporary art field: Salim Bayri, Ansuya Blom, Banu Cennetoğlu,Isabelle Cornaro, Aude Christel Mgba, Vera Mey, Melvin Moti, Christodoulos Panayiotou, Wendelien van Oldenborgh and Antonio Vega Macotela.
Together, they searched for artists whose practices are distinctive, relevant, and thought-provoking – artists who can fully engage with the opportunities the Rijksakademie provides: time, space, facilities, and meaningful dialogue with advisors, technical specialists, and fellow residents. Important was a strong artistic vision, along with an openness to deepen, expand, or evolve their work, and to actively participate in a diverse and collaborative artistic community.
From January onwards, these 24 artists will join the current first-year residents to form a multidisciplinary, experimental and critically engaged artist community. We are looking forward to welcoming them and working with them.
